Open Knowledge International's annual event has run each year since 2005. The 2012 edition brought together more than 1000 people from 50 countries to Helsinki, Finland whilst the 2013 event saw similar numbers in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2014, OKFestival will be held in Berlin.
The 2012 Open Knowledge Festival had a major impact on open knowledge activities in Finland - and saw the launch of a several new major initiatives in Finland (such as the Open Ministry project which garnered international media attention from the likes of Wired Italia and Le Monde), as well as the creation of a civil society roadmap for Finland’s commitments to the Open Government Partnership. The event received national press coverage, including live TV and radio from major channels. Open Knowledge Finland has had a significant boost of energy on the back of OKFestival 2012, and it is continuing to promote open knowledge and catalyse open knowledge projects in Finland.
