Since 2012, Open Knowledge International and the European Journalism Centre have been invited to run the School of Data Journalism at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia.
The School of Data Journalism is a series of panels and workshop for beginner data journalists. We first ran the School of Data Journalism in 2012 to coincide with the launch of the Data Journalism Handbook and the second one took place in 2013. For the 2012 sessions, we had around 300 registrations for the sessions (and full rooms), for 2013, we had over 400 registrations (and rooms so full that people had to sit on the floor!).
Running the School of Data Journalism attracts high-profile guest tutorials e.g. from Pulitzer Prize Winner Steve Doig, and information visualisation expert Gregor Aisch and raises the profile of open data with journalism communities who may not otherwise encounter it.
