Purpose
‘A cross of Freshmeat with CPAN for open knowledge’
CKAN will provide a comprehensive database of open knowledge projects, tools and data sets.
The CKAN project consists of two distinct parts:
- A set of CKAN software tools to manage the database along with its web interface.
- A service using this software at http://www.ckan.net/

Status: Active
After a runing alpha sandbox site (from 2006-10) the beta site launched in March 2007 and as of June 2007 was stable. After 12 point release (v0.1 to v0.12) v1.0 of the CKAN software was released in Spring 2010.

Development of the software and addition of material to the service is active and ongoing.
