Call for Proposals: Creative Agencies for Global Open Tech Campaign (Video & Design Services)

Work description: Creative Agencies for Global Open Tech Campaign (Video & Design Services)
Location: Global Majority (remote)
Type of contract: Consultancy, based on deliverables.
Starting date: As soon as possible

The Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN) is seeking an emerging and vibrant communication agency from the Global Majority to support a high-impact global campaign through video production and design services.

The Organisation

Open Knowledge Foundation is a global non-profit organisation working towards the openness of all forms of knowledge to secure a fair, sustainable and open future for all. We have been establishing and advocating for open standards for the last 20 years, and providing services, tools and training for institutions to adopt openness as a design principle.

OKFN is the organisation behind the Open Definition, Open Data Commons, the Global Open Data Index, School of Data, and cutting-edge tools like CKAN and the Open Data Editor (ODE). Beyond tech, we are the hub of the open movement, with members of the Open Knowledge Network distributed in 40+ countries, and we also have or are a part of several exciting initiatives in the fields of advocacy and community, such as Open Data Day, Open Goes COP, Digital Public Goods Alliance, Global Digital Justice Forum, among others.

Open Knowledge Foundation is a distributed team, based all over the world, so experience or strong understanding of what is required to work in a global, multicultural, highly transparent, remote team is a distinct advantage.

The Campaign

We are currently working under an umbrella initiative, The Tech We Want, our ambitious effort to reimagine how technology is built and used. We are advocating for open, long-lasting, resilient and affordable technologies that are good enough to solve people's problems, and for open and fair governance mechanisms and tools to truly democratise data and AI.

In October 2024, we kicked off this initiative with a hugely successful two-day The Tech We Want summit where, together with key experts and activists, we tried to imagine new ways of developing technology, a kind of technology that is a public good, developed with and for the community, maintained with care, sustainable for people and the planet, and built to last. Since then, we've also promoted two new iterations of this initiative, one focused on the electoral technologies used in Super Election Year 2024, and another focused on the Frictionless Data project.

Now, as we prepare for a new summit in June 2025, this time aimed at non-technical people ("The Tech People Want"), it's time to broaden the reach of the message and engage new audiences, especially young people, people from the Global Majority, and members of small civil society organisations and governments that impact the lives of millions of people every day.

We’re looking for agencies that can:

  • Develop compelling video content (short-form, animations, testimonials) for digital platforms.
  • Create visually striking design assets (social media graphics, infographics, branding materials).
  • Ensure culturally relevant, inclusive, and accessible messaging for diverse audiences, especially non-technical ones.
  • Work efficiently under tight deadlines with a collaborative approach.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in global or regional campaigns.
  • Strong portfolio in video storytelling and graphic design.
  • Based in and deeply familiar with Global Majority contexts.
  • Ability to deliver in multiple languages is a plus.
  • Use of open source software is a plus.

How to apply

Interested agencies should submit the following information to jobs@okfn.org using the subject line "Comms for The Tech We Want”:

  • Portfolio (samples of past work).
  • Company profile (team, expertise, location).
  • Proposed approach & budget estimate per deliverable (e.g., short video, event flyer, etc.)
